The Project Management Institute (PMI) is shaking things up with significant changes to the Project Management Professional (PMP) exam format starting July 2026. Here’s what you need to know:
New Exam Structure
Duration: The exam will now be 240 minutes long, up from 230 minutes.
Questions: You’ll face 185 questions, with 170 scored and 10 unscored pre-test questions.
Format: Get ready for Scenario Blocks, which are long-form case studies, and AI-integrated problem-solving questions.

Shift in Focus
Business Environment: This domain jumps from 8% to 26% of the exam, emphasizing strategic alignment and value delivery.
People: Focus on leadership, team management, and communication decreases slightly to 33%.
Process: Core project management skills drop to 41%

New Question Types
Case Studies: 30-40 questions based on long scenarios.
Enhanced Matching: Drag-and-drop concepts.
Hotspot: Point-and-click on charts or diagrams.
Multi-Select: “Select all that apply” questions
The new training material for PMP is set to be released in April 2026, while the new exam format goes live from July 2026.
